DESIGNED & MADE BY HAND IN ATHENS WITH LOVE

ABOUT THE NAME OF THE BAG :

Cassandra or Kassandra (in Greek Κασσάνδρα) was a princess of Troy, daughter of the King Priam and Queen Hecuba. She was a beautiful woman with curly brown hair and dark eyes. She was given the gift of prophecy by Apollo, but after receiving it she broke her promise to give herself to him. To punish her, Apollo cursed her that though she would see the futur, nobody would never believes her predictions. In modern usage Cassandra metaphor (Cassandra “syndrome”, “complex”, phenomenon” …) is used when someone’s valid warnings or concerns are disbelieved by others.

ABOUT THE PATTERN :

Tsarouchia (in Greek Τσαρούχια) are shoes which are typically known nowadays because they are worn by the Evzones, the Greek presidential guards. The Tsarouchia the Evzones wear are very heavy footwear with over 3 kg the pair and have more than 60 nails (can go to 120 depending of the size) on the base of the clog. During walking, these nails make a characteristic sound like that of a battle. On top there is this so fancy black pompon which contrasts with the vivid leather red (it can be of different color depending of the region). The origin of those shoes goes back to Byzantine times. Until the 19th century, everybody was wearing in rural or urban areas. With the passage of time those shoes became part of folklore and you can see them, worn with traditional costumes during danse festivals or other special occasions.
